JCW’s Granny Programme is maturing at a healthy rate. The programme was established at Othandweni in 2011 by Spence-Chapin and pairs ‘surrogate’ grannies from the community with children in our home. Children receive one-on-one love and attention which helps them grow and form healthy attachments; and the grannies earn an income.
It’s a win-win for both parties. The Granny Programme is proving so successful that Spence- Chapin is expanding it to The Salvation Army Ethembeni Children’s Home in Doornfontein. We are so pleased that Ethembeni children will also benefit from a granny’s care while they wait for adoption or fostering.
