Donate to Jo'burg Child Welfare

If you want to make the whole world happier, start with helping one child, one family. We know that you want to help Jo’burg Child Welfare. The only question is: How? And that’s up to you! Please browse through the suggestions below and click on the links that interest you.

Donate Cash

One of the quickest and easiest ways to support JCW is with a cash donation. Donations keep the lights on and the water running; and help us raise children and pay the salaries of those who care for them. These running costs are significant. Since JCW was founded, the number of children on we care for has increased almost 1 000-fold; from 100 in 1909 to over 98 000 in 2019. With government providing only 30% of funding, we could not possibly cope without cash donations.

Once-off Credit Card

We’d never ask you to risk your own financial wellbeing. If it’s more convenient to make a single contribution, using your credit card, you can do so and come back to repeat this process at any time suitable for you. Every contribution helps us provide safety and nourishment to deserving children.

Once-off EFT

We know that the future can appear uncertain. If you can’t predict the ongoing ability to help, making a once-off financial contribution today will still help us provide a meal or life-saving medicine for a child in need.

Monthly Credit Card

Setting up a monthly credit card payment is one way to make a difference while protecting your monthly cash flows. No contribution is too big or too small, and every effort helps us keep the lights on.

Monthly Debit Order

Help us keep food on the table every month. Set up a monthly debit order directly from your account and receive updates from us about where your contributions make the biggest difference.

Volunteer

Along with financial contributions and partnering to host fundraisers on our behalf, there is also the option to volunteer at events or at our facilities. Working with abused, abandoned and neglected children requires patience, measured emotions and intense compassion and consideration for what some of these innocent young minds and hearts have been exposed to. If you’d like to volunteer, please get in touch with us and one of our team members will help find an appropriate opportunity for you.

VOLUNTEER AT OUR CENTRES

We have a number of needs at JCW and all are equally important to our services, from fundraising and awareness, to helping to care for our children, as well as administrative support at our Head Office.

SKILLS TRAINING AT OUR CENTRES

We offer a range of skills development courses which volunteers can then apply in their support back to JCW

HELP AT OUR FUNDRAISING EVENTS

Fundraising plays a major role in helping sustain what we do, and we are always in need of more hands on deck at these events

Donate Goods

If you’ve got unwanted household items or clothing that are still in good condition, you’re welcome to donate them to JCW. We accept any and all goods such as appliances, cutlery and crockery, books, blankets, furniture, clothing and shoes. If you’re done with them, we’d love them! Items that JCW needs are put to good use in our centers; while things we don’t need are sold in our charity shop or used to raise funds.

SECOND-HAND ITEMS

Clothing, furniture and appliances will be put to good use in our centres or used to raise funds.

WISH LISTS FOR OUR CENTRES

We are always in need of nappies of all sizes, formula and other essentials. Please view the attached list.

GIFT PARCELS

We strive to make each child in our care feel special and loved. That’s not always easy, given that many children are dealing with abandonment, neglect, abuse, disease and poverty.

We strive to make each child in our care feel special and loved. That’s not always easy, given that many children are dealing with abandonment, neglect, abuse, disease and poverty.
But receiving a personalised gift parcel gives a child unexpected joy and happiness.
JCW provides donors with the name, gender and age of a child in need and donors then pack a box of age-appropriate goodies especially for them.
Parcels for babies may contain nappies, clothing and toys; while parcels for older children may contain toiletries, new clothes, stationery, sweets and toys, and hopefully a special letter for the child.

Donate Your Special Occasion

If you’re writing or updating your Will, then it’s the perfect opportunity to remember Jo’burg Child Welfare with a parting gift or bequest.

If you have a special occasion coming up, then why not celebrate by sharing your good fortune with the less fortunate? Pledging donations to JCW in lieu of gifts will make your occasion feel even more special.
You might find that people who would not normally buy you a birthday or anniversary gift will be happy to support a cause that you’re passionate about.
So, this year, be the spark that ignites change and encourage your loved ones to donate to JCW.
For more, contact Maria at 011 298 8500 or inkind@jhbchildwelfare.org.za

Pledging a special occasion is easy. Simply write a short motivation telling your friends and family why you’ve chosen JCW as your beneficiary. It’s not a bad idea to set a fundraising target either.
You can set up a fundraising page on www.givengain.com/c/jcw/ . . . or provide friends with this link to the JCW donate page . . . or collect their gifts and make a lumpsum deposit yourself.
To kickstart momentum, make the first donation yourself and keep everyone updated about progress towards your target.

Remember, the more you share your message on social media and e-mail, the more likely you are to reach your target.  Thank you!

Host A Party

What better way to bring joy to vulnerable children than by hosting a party in their honour? Parties offer so much more than a few hours of fun.

make JCW centres happier places to be.

Bake or knit for us

If you enjoy baking or knitting, then you’ve got skills that give children thrills! We’d love you to donate those skills to us.

If you enjoy baking or knitting, then you’ve got skills that give children thrills! We’d love you to donate those skills to us.

Every three months, JCW holds birthday parties for children who celebrated their birthday over that period. They receive gifts, special treats – and birthday cakes. We need a lot of cakes and are grateful for donations of freshly-baked delights.

If your skills lie in crocheting or knitting, then we need you too. Our foster care and adoption parents appreciate gifts for children that are handcrafted with love, such as blankets, beanies and baby booties.

Leave A Bequest

If you’re writing or updating your Will, then it’s the perfect opportunity to remember Jo’burg Child Welfare with a parting gift or bequest.

If you’re writing or updating your Will, then it’s the perfect opportunity to remember Jo’burg Child Welfare with a parting gift or bequest. Your legacy will touch the lives of profoundly vulnerable children for years to come – and will leave the world a little brighter that it was before.
You can specify if you’d like JCW to use your gift to support a project that’s close to your heart; or you can leave it up to us to use wherever the need is most urgent.
For further details, contact foundations1@jhbchildwelfare.org.za or 011 298 8500.

There are two main types of bequests that you can leave in your Will.
The first is a Specific Bequest, such as a specific sum of money, the proceeds of a life policy, a property, or a valuable possession such as an artwork.
The second is a Residual Bequest. The residue is whatever is left after your estate has paid all other specific gifts, debts, taxes and expenses. You can bequeath the whole residue, or a percent thereof, to JCW.
JCW is a registered non-profit organisation so the value of your bequest will be deducted before estate duty is calculated. This will reduce the amount of tax your estate pays.
Please be assured that anything you share with JCW about your Will will be treated in the strictest confidence.
